Individual Therapy & Mentoring

How I work with Individuals…

Meditation teacher Sylvia Boorstein has a beautiful teaching – “May I meet this moment fully.  May I meet it as a friend.” – that I have held dear for many years.  Most of the time we cannot control the external circumstances of our life – the sudden loss, the diagnosis, the traffic that makes us late for work, the weather that rains on our vacation.  We can only control how we relate to the circumstances of our life and to ourselves as the one experiencing those circumstances.  This practice of befriending is at the heart of how I work with people, as a therapist, as a mentor, as a meditation and dharma teacher.

I view my relationship with clients and students as one of sacred accompaniment…of walking with you on your journey as you transform your relationship with old wounds or daily stressors to live with more ease and harmony in this chaotic uncertain world.   Many come to therapy looking for answers.  Through accompaniment, we inquire together to uncover the questions that your body, mind and heart are asking.

I believe your heart and nervous system already contains the potential for healing, growth, integration and expansion…we help it find its way.  Through a process of kind accompaniment, we will access your own innate wisdom and capacity for wholeness and well-being, drawing upon the support and helpful maps offered by psychology, neuroscience, brainspotting, embodiment and Buddhism, as appropriate.  Sometimes shifts come quickly and dramatically in the healing journey…many times, it can be a slow cultivation of greater clarity, compassion, capacity and contentment that begins to bring a sense of more fulfillment and ease.  Over time, you can learn to kindly accompany yourself as you walk through life.

When our own heart and mind is steady, supported and sustained, we are able to engage with this world that is in need of tending on both the personal and planetary levels.  With more access to clarity and compassion, we can remain in connection – with our families, our communities, and the Earth – finding ways of coming back into right relationship with the natural and social world to be a steward of transformation in this tender world.

We might be a good fit to work together if…

  • You are holding healing and growth as a spiritual or sacred journey
  • You resonate with the approach of befriending yourself and your life, rather than trying to perfect yourself and your life.
  • You are not looking for a quick fix…but rather looking for a different way of being in the world.
  • You have a meditation practice and would like to explore how to bring your practice to the challenges you are experiencing/facing.
  • You are seeking support for developing or deepening a meditation practice.
  • You are interested in brainspotting as a way of healing trauma or shifting old/habitual patterns.
  • You are inviting new habits and aspirations into your life and want to nourish and expand these with support
  • You are seeking ways to metabolize and engage with the environmental losses and social/political injustices and challenges of our times
  • You are motivated to engage in personal healing work in service of the well-being of the larger whole.

If you think we may be a good fit/feel a resonance with any of the above, I welcome you to reach out and we can have a 20-minute initial consultation to explore the possibility of working together.
