Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Respond to stress more skillfully.   Discover the power of presence.
Cultivate more kindness.   Open to joy and ease.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an opportunity to wake up more fully to life. I was first introduced to MBSR over a decade ago and it helped me transform my own relationship with the stressors in my life.  I became passionate about helping people manage their stress with more patience, ease, and humor and went on to study with the MBSR program at the Duke University Center for Integrative Medicine for four years.  Since that time I have completed extensive training on the integration of mindfulness and yoga over the last decade and have been teaching MBSR since 2007.   I love helping people live more gracefully in the present moment and look forward to hopefully seeing you in one of my classes.

I am also available for individual mindfulness and yoga sessions, particularly with a therapeutic focus to support mental and physical health or recovery.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program Description:

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an empirically supported 8-week psycho-educational training program that uses meditation and yoga to cultivate awareness and to reduce stress.  In this program, participants practice present moment awareness, deep relaxation and gentle movement as a way of waking up more fully to their life.  Becoming more aware of what is happening in the body and mind in any given moment increases the possibility for acceptance and more skillful response to life’s stressors and challenges.  MBSR can help people who are coping with medical problems, job- or family-related stress, and anxiety or depression.  Most participants report an increased ability to relax, greater enthusiasm for life, and increased ability to cope more effectively with physical and psychological symptoms and stressful situations.

MBSR is a great introduction to meditation, gentle movement, and kindness practices for individuals new to mindfulness.  It can also offer an opportunity for those who have a meditation practice to enhance their application of mindfulness to daily life.  MBSR can be helpful for people coping with a wide variety of concerns.

I am happy to work with your agency or business to bring MBSR to your staff or clients on-site.  If you would like to sponsor an MBSR program, please give me a call at 303-868-5881.

“This class is life changing. Jean is an extraordinary leader. Thoughtful, well-informed and heart centered.”
– MBSR participant
“Jean has such a loving presence in her teaching. Her heart-focused MBSR allows this work to be embraced with the whole body so much more quickly, hence the results are more self-compassion and lovingkindness throughout the course.”
– MBSR participant
“I have been fortunate to do workshops with Jack Kornfield and Pema Chödrön.  I found Jean’s teaching style to be a favorite!  She utilizes a wonderful balance of open-hearted, gentle, compassionate teaching with well-boundaried poignant and to-the-point offerings.  I have struggled with sitting meditation for years; Jean made me want to work with the challenges.  I recommend her!”
– SM, MBSR participant
“Jean Leonard presents the powerful tools of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction with high skill, based on years of training and personal practice. She leads the class by example, using both her own experience and those of the participants as examples of the principles and attitudes of mindfulness and lovingkindness. I recommend her class highly.”
– D.K., MBSR participant
“Jean’s sense of humor, insight and experience made meditation practice less daunting. I discovered that mindfulness opens the door to personal understanding, healing and growth in many aspects of life. Jean was very supportive of everyone in the group and made it easy to feel comfortable enough to share our thoughts and feelings with each other.”
– MBSR participant
“Jean was a great guide into the world of MBSR.  She was extremely knowledgeable and created a great atmosphere for learning and sharing.  At the start of class the 8-week commitment seemed a bit daunting but by the last class I found myself feeling like I was really going to miss it that next week.  It was certainly worth the time commitment and I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to start a practice or build upon their existing practice.”  -M.R., MBSR participant
